The Utes are natives of Utah, Colorado, and a small portion of northern New Mexico.
The designation Ute refers to a group of various bands who share a common language. The bands include the following:
- Muache (in southern Colorado)
- Capote (also in southern Colorado)
- Weeminuche (on the border between southern Utah and Colorado)
- Uncompahgre (Taviwach in central Colorado)
- White River (Parusanuch in northeastern Utah and northwestern Colorado and the Yampa in northern Colorado)
- Uintah (in Utah)
- Pahvant (in Utah)
- Timpanogots (in Utah)
- Sanpits (in Utah)
- Moanunts (in Utah)
