GETTING A LIBRARY CARD AND MAINTAINING YOUR ACCOUNT

    • You will need:

      • Photo Identification - Picture ID issued by government, school, or employer
      • Proof of Address - A document bearing the applicant's name and local address (it cannot be Photo ID)
      • A completed library card application. Applications can be picked up from the Circulation Help Desk in the library, or can be printed from our website.

Bring all three items to the Circulation Desk to be issued a card.

More detailed information can be found on our How to Get a Library Card page.

    • Children from 0 - 17 years of age may have their own library card, but it will be attached to the account of their parent or legal guardian.

    • You must be at least 18 years old to have your own library account. Children under the age of 18 may obtain their own library card, which must be attached to the library account of a parent/guardian. More detailed information can be found on our How to Get a Library Card page.

    • Yes! All Provo and Orem City residents are entitled to a Provo City Library Card. See our How to Get a Library Card page for more information.

    • Homeowners in Provo Canyon, including Spring Dell, Sundance, and on South Fork Road are not located within the Provo City limits, do not pay property taxes that support the library, and are not eligible for a free resident library card. You may purchase a non-resident card for $60 for six months or $120 for a year of library use.

    • You can get a library card if you don't live in Provo or Orem, but there is a fee associated with the card ($60 for six months or $120 for one year). Go to the How to Get a Library Card page for more information.

    • Library cards expire every two years for residents or one year for college students and educators. Internet Only cards, which allow use of our computers, also expire in one year. You can renew your card by going to the Circulation Help Desk or by calling 801-852-6660.

    • You can update your contact information in person or over the phone (801-852-6660). We will ask for your library card number or, in person, you may show a photo ID instead. You may view your current contact information by logging in to your Library account online; however, contact information cannot be changed online.

    • Your account can be deleted if it is inactive for a number of years.  We will also delete your account if you or a legal guardian requests that we do so. If your card is no longer in our system, you will need to come into the library to get a new card.

If a card has been replaced, such as when a card is lost or missing, the old card will no longer work in our system. If you are unsure if the card you are using is your current card, you can call the library (801-852-6660) to get more information from us.

    • For your protection, never share your PIN.
      To change your PIN:

      • If your account has a balance of more than $25.00, it may be sent to a collection agency, after notification efforts have been made. It is important we have your current contact information at all times.
      • You may make partial payment of fines.
      • If you pay for lost materials, please keep your receipt.  If the lost materials are found and returned to the library within 90 days, you will receive a refund.
      • Bring damaged materials to the Circulation Help Desk.  If an item is damaged beyond normal wear and tear, a fee may be assessed, or you may need to pay the full replacement cost of the item.
